How to Set Up Your Pinterest for Handmade Pen Product (Boards, Pins, and Easy AI Help)

Updated: Oct 14

How to Set Up Your Pinterest for Handmade Pen Product

Let’s be real: you made the Pinterest account... then ghosted it. 👻

No shame — but if your pens are photogenic and your shop’s been quiet,

Pinterest is the low-effort, long-game tool you’ve been ignoring.

It's not just for mood boards and recipes. Pinterest is a visual search engine, and your products deserve a spot in those search results.

In this post, I’ll show you:

  • How to make boards that buyers actually find

  • How to post Pins that actually get clicked

  • And how to make AI do the boring parts for you

Let’s make your first (or next) pin feel easy, not intimidating.👇

Step 1: Set Up a Pinterest Board for Your Products

Your boards are like labeled shelves in a store — organized, themed, and full of pins buyers can browse. Here's how to make one from scratch:

For Products, Themes, or Gift Ideas

  1. Log in to your Pinterest account.

  2. In the top-left corner, click your business name (it may be next to the Pinterest logo).

  3. A menu will pop up — make sure it’s set to the word “Profile.”

Then click directly on “Profile” to open your account page.

  4. Once you're on your profile, scroll down the page.

  5. On the right-hand side, look for a big red button that says “+ Create.”

    Click that, then select “Board.”

  6. Name your board clearly using keywords.

Examples: “Handmade Pens for Veterans”, “Holiday Gift Guide – Writing Gifts”, or “Product Photography Ideas for Makers.”

  7. Click “Create.”

Pinterest will suggest random pins to add to the board. Skip this and select done.

  8. Write a short keyword rich board description that explains what the board is about. This helps with search. You can do this by selecting the three dots on the top right of the blank board - then select edit board.

Pro tip: Be specific. “Gift Ideas for Writers” will work better than “My Pens.” Pinterest (and Google!) both love clarity.

Step 2: Create a Pin That Links to Your Product

Once your board is set up, it’s time to make your first Pin. This is your product’s poster — the image, title, and description that will appear in search results and drive people back to your shop.

How to Create a Pin on Pinterest (Simple Walkthrough)

  1. Log in to your Pinterest business account.

  2. Scroll down on the home page until you see the section titled “Share your brand” — then click “Create Pin.”

  3. Either

    1. Upload a vertical image of your product (ideal size: 1000 x 1500 px). Use a clean, well-lit photo that shows off the details.

    2. Save from URL link. Copy any live link from your store.

      ree
  4. Add a clear Pin Title.

    Example: “Handcrafted Walnut Fountain Pen”

  5. Write a short Pin Description

Tell people what the product is and why they might want it. (Example: A refillable rollerball pen handcrafted from walnut wood — perfect for Father’s Day or writer gifts.)

  6. Paste your product link into the “Destination link” field. This is where people will go if they click your Pin. (for example, the exact pin, collection or blog post)

  7. Choose a board that fits the theme (like “Patriotic Gifts” or “Handmade Pens for Writers”).

  8. Click “Publish."

Your Pin is now live, searchable, and linked to your store!

That’s it — your pin is now live and searchable!

Bonus: Let ChatGPT Do the Heavy Lifting

If you’re stuck trying to come up with the perfect board name or pin description, we’ve got you covered. ChatGPT can generate great options for you — all you need to do is give it a theme.

Here are 2 plug-and-play prompts to try:

Prompt 1: For Board Name + Description Based on Collection Theme

Replace the yellow highlighted words with your collection theme

I have a collection of handmade pens themed around [faith / patriotic gifts / ocean colors / fall / fantasy / etc.]. Please write a clear, keyword-rich Pinterest board name and a 2–3 sentence board description that appeals to gift buyers or collectors.

Example input:

"I have a collection of handmade pens themed around faith."

ChatGPT output:

Board Name: Faith-Based Gift Pens

Description: Celebrate faith with these handcrafted pens inspired by scripture, hope, and purpose. Each pen in this collection is designed with meaningful materials, engraved messages, and gift-ready quality. Perfect for confirmations, pastors, and encouragement gifts.

Prompt: For Brainstorming Multiple Board Name Options First

I’m building a Pinterest board for a themed pen collection based on [insert theme]. Give me 5 different Pinterest board name ideas that use keywords and would appeal to gift shoppers or collectors.

Example input:

Themed around faith-based pens.

ChatGPT output:

  1. Handmade Pens with Scripture & Faith
